Selangor’s Work In Progress

Malaysiakini published an extensive interview with Selangor Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, on Saturday. Among some of the areas covered in the interview are:

  • The developments on the relocation of RM 9.9 million by BALKIS
  • The tabling of an enactment to strengthen the state anti-corruption watchdog, the Selangor Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transparency (SELCAT)
  • The declaration of assets by the Pakatan Rakyat representatives
  • The luxury bungalows built by the previous Barisan Nasional administration for the use of State cabinet members
  • Administration of local government and elected local councillors
  • The change of culture in the civil service
  • The demolition of the Hindu temple in Ampang
  • Expectations of the Indian Malaysian community
  • Land allocation for the building and development of Tamil vernacular primary schools
  • The abeyant attempt by Pakatan Rakyat to form the Federal Government post September 16

There are some pretty interesting revelations in the interview, a lot of which are in the public domain. One has to wonder why the media in general has only focused on the allegations against Teresa Kok (and yet remaining relatively quiet when it comes to covering her responses) when it comes to the Selangor state administration.

Videos of the interview can be viewed below:

Personally, while I still think that the MB lacks political savvy and is less than eloquent, not to mention his perpetual bad hair days, he seems to be doing the right things so far - ie. the things that need to be done. It sure beats publicity stunts like handing out “broom awards” in terms of substance and results.

  1. one doesn’t need to look and act savvy. service comes from the heart and if he truly believes in serving the rakyat, it will be reflected in his actions…

i don’t recall if i posted this comment elsewhere but i remember when i return to selangor on mar 9 this year (i drove down to malacca on the 8th after voting), i felt the air is different… it is probably just me, but there seemed to be hope in the air…

but now… it seems hope is fading…
