Eager Younglings At The Subang Jaya Junior Public Speaking Club

I was given the privilege today to share the panel table with some distinguished folks; K.J. John (Executive Director, OHMSI, Lee Swee Seng (Advocate & Solicitor) and Edward Ling (Political Secretary for Subang Jaya ADUN, Hannah Yeoh); in a round-table discussion organised by the Junior Public Speaking Club (JPSC) in Subang Jaya. Nathaniel Tan was supposed to join us but he was called away in the last minute due to a family emergency.

I was asked to give a short presentation on the Federal Constitution although I suspect I may have overdid it as far as the time limit was concerned. I must confess that I really enjoyed doing the research for the presentation. A lot of what was presented was already in my head but to dig it back out, double check the facts, and re-structure it to a proper presentation was quite a delightful exercise.

And the actual interaction with the participants of the JPSC round-table was very delightful as well. I was impressed at the interest and attention shown as well as the quality of questions from the floor that were asked. Bear in mind, a large majority of those who participated were secondary school aged younglings with some a bit younger as well. If this is an indication as to the level of interest our younger generation has in regards to nation building, I truly believe there's still hope for our nation.

Just in case some of the participants have chanced upon this blog, here're some additional resources that might get more of those creative juices of enquiry running ..

I would like to thank David BC Tan (whom I understand was instrumental for the invite), Sook Ching (Mrs David Tan), Terry (Organising mom), Daniel Dusanjh (the longsuffering moderator), Subang Jaya Gospel Centre (who provided the premises), the JPSC members, Meng (who apparently was hard at work in the background) and everyone else who participated in this event. I hope you folks had as much fun as I did.

Hi Bob, thank you so much for giving your time, energy and heart into this for us at the JPSC. It was good food for thot, what you shared on the evolution of the FC and during the Q&A. We are impressed not only by what was said, but by the graciousness, enthusiasm and passion of all our distinguished panelists. God bless you and God bless our country, Malaysia!

Bob;
Not sure about working hard if you call forwarding e-mails hard. Heard you did a great job.

I was thrilled by the idea when the organiser first mentioned it. This lot of youths will be the next elligible voting block. I think something like this should be duplicated in all major cities.

Instead of growing up apathetic or selfish; our youths can be conditioned to be "heores" for the cause of justice, fighting for the marginalised.

Thanks Bob for making the time. Many have benefited. Also enjoyed the little history talk after. To Meng, well done...you helped make it happen.
Best wishes
