With the date of the General Elections finally announced (see Malaysiakini for more news), the various political parties are mobilising their campaign machinery to convince voters that they ought to be given the mandate to administer the nation on our behalf for the next five years. The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM); an umbrella body encompassing the Roman Catholic Church, the Council of Churches of Malaysia and the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship; has launched a non partisan campaign to increase the awareness of Malaysian Christians on their obligation to vote and the implications of their voting.
- To pray for an election campaign that is clean, fair and that does not heighten ethnic and religious tensions.
- To encourage all eligible Christian voters to exercise their right to vote.
- To disseminate widely the Vote Wisely leaflet to all church members, and to have it reproduced in Sunday Bulletins and Church Newsletters.
The Vote Wisely leaflet's content is reproduced here and can be downloaded below in four different languages (Bahasa Malaysia, English, Chinese and Tamil) :

In my partisan perspective, I'd have to say that I can tell which side doesn't fulfill the criterias above.

Let's use the ballot boxes to spread the "Good News"
To make sure that all politicians heed our views
With all objectionable rules and laws to review
We want the nation to be placed back in the right queue

Hi Kenneth,
Sorry I missed your comment. It kinda got buried. To answer your question, the best way is to have a look at the candidate's profile or to ask the candidate's staff direct. I don't think we keep a record of the religious affiliation of our candidates.
Having said that, I don't think it really matters at this juncture. We have had MPs who professed the Christian faith all this while on both sides of the political divide and unfortunately some of them have not been Christian in their acts of omission or commission while discharging their duties as holders of public office.
IMHO, I believe its the walk that particularly matters and that, rather than the religious affiliation label that a candidate assumes, would be the criteria for my choice.
