Opinionated Blogging Beyond Free Blog Hosts
I have been asked to give a review of the HostGator Coupon blog. Rather than merely extolling the virtues of online coupons, I’d thought I’d see how something like this can really be relevant to the readers of this blog.
On a blog like this one where certain strong opinions are given, it’s almost inevitable that it occasionally garners some strong and occasionally verbose reactions. To be fair to me, I’ve had to take some actions that I’d rather not. I provided some rationale in a previous post.
One of the suggestions I made was for folks who have strong opinions to go get themselves a blog of their own. I provided some links to where one could get a blog for free over here. This is probably a good idea for those who are just starting to blog. I do know that some already have existing blogs, many of which are already hosted on free service providers. An upgrade might be worth considering.
When I say upgrade, I mean getting a blog hosted on its own server with its own domain name. One advantage of doing this is that you get more control in how you want your blog to be. A unique domain name would also establish a brand identity for your online presence and your opinion.
Blogging platforms like Wordpress and Movable Type (the engine that powers this blog) are generally very easy to set up and maintain. A definite leap forward from what I had to endure when I first started building websites in 1997 where I had to learn to manipulate CGI/Perl to have a functional and interactive site.
With what HostGator Coupon has to offer, the entry level to this upgrade is made even less painful.
HostGator is a web hosting provider that specialises in fairly good quality, budget hosting. Their basic package, which is more than sufficient to host a medium sized blog like this one, costs no more than US$60.00 a year (approximately RM200.00) or US$4.95 a month (approximately RM17.00). Domain names can be obtained for as little as RM40.00 a year over here.
HostGator Coupon provides a frequently updated list of discount coupons that will show how you can save US$9.94 (RM33.50) on your first month for HostGator’s services. This means that if you get the most basic package, your first month is essentially free. Not too bad, eh?
This works out as a pretty good incentive for web designers as well who can provide their clients with low cost hosting as part of a package to make their services more competitive. HostGator Coupon is definitely a good site to keep in your bookmarks.
